Lafarge Africa expands cement capacity at Sagamu and Ashaka plants, boosting output and efficiency to meet Nigeria’s construction demand

Lafarge Africa Plc has announced plans to expand its cement production footprint through major upgrades at the Sagamu Cement Plant in Ogun State and the Ashaka Cement Plant in Gombe State.

In a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited signed by Company Secretary Adewunmi Alode, the company said the projects would significantly strengthen local cement output and improve supply across key markets.

The new facilities will operate as dry plants, fitted with preheater kilns, vertical raw mills and roller presses designed to enhance energy efficiency and operational performance.

Upon completion, the Ashaka Cement Plant will increase capacity to two million metric tonnes per annum, while the Sagamu Cement Plant will be expanded to 3.5 million metric tonnes per annum.

Lafarge Africa said the higher capacity will improve product availability and enable faster response to customer demand nationwide.

The expansion follows last year’s acquisition of an 83.81 per cent stake in Lafarge Africa Plc by Huaxin Building Materials Group, a development the company said reaffirmed its long term commitment to Nigeria’s infrastructure growth.

Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Lolu Alade-Akinyemi described the projects as a strategic investment reflecting confidence in Nigeria’s growth prospects.

“The expansion of our plants is a strategic investment that reinforces Lafarge Africa’s role in supporting national development,” Alade-Akinyemi said.

He added that beyond increasing output, the projects will deliver sustainability gains, improve operational reliability and contribute to economic activity and job creation within host communities.

According to the company, the integration of modern production technologies will strengthen the supply chain and enhance environmental performance in line with responsible operational standards.
