Kanu Nwankwo celebrates Arsenal’s Premier League title win, praising his former club after ending a 22-year drought

Former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu has joined in the celebrations after his former club Arsenal clinched the English Premier League title, ending a 22-year wait for the crown.

Arsenal’s triumph in the 2025/26 season was confirmed on Tuesday night following Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, a result that mathematically secured the title for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The Gunners, who held a narrow advantage heading into the penultimate round of fixtures, will now head into their final match against Crystal Palace as champions, where they are expected to officially lift the trophy.

Kanu, a key member of Arsenal’s legendary “Invincibles” squad that last won the league in the 2003/04 season, expressed delight at the club’s long-awaited success.

Taking to social media platform X, he shared a message of support alongside a nostalgic photo of himself lifting the Premier League trophy during his playing days at the club.

“Arsenal forever. The Gunners worked so hard for this. Difficult but they fought. Very well deserved. Come on you Gunners,” he wrote.

Kanu joined Arsenal in 1999 and enjoyed a successful spell at Highbury, making 197 appearances and contributing 44 goals and 38 assists before departing in 2004.

During his time with the club, he won multiple domestic titles, including two Premier League trophies and two FA Cups, cementing his place in Arsenal’s history.

Beyond his Arsenal legacy, Kanu also enjoyed a decorated career in Europe and on the international stage, winning major trophies with Ajax, Inter Milan, and Portsmouth, as well as Olympic gold with Nigeria.
