Bandits kill a resident and abduct several others in Kankara, Katsina State, raising security concerns despite a peace agreement ahead of Ramadan

Bandits have reportedly killed a resident and abducted several others in separate attacks in Kankara Local Government Area, despite a peace deal reached earlier between local stakeholders and armed groups operating in the area ahead of Ramadan.

Security analyst and crisis journalist Bakatsine disclosed the incidents via his X account on Friday.

The first attack occurred around midnight in the Gangaren Mangwarori area of Kankara town, where the assailants reportedly killed a resident identified as Malam Surajo and abducted an elderly woman known as Gwamma.

In a second attack at approximately 6 a.m., gunmen reportedly invaded the Marabar Gurbi community within the same local government area, abducting several residents.

Among those taken was the community’s second Imam (Na’ibi), Malam Jamilu Marabar Gurbi, who was on his way to the mosque for the Subhi (Fajr) prayer after Sahoor.

The attacks have reignited fears among residents, who expressed concern over rising insecurity despite previous efforts to maintain peace. Calls for stronger security measures to prevent further violence have intensified.
