Jalingo Nursing College denies claims of extorting ₦5,250 from students, clarifying materials fees are standard for all NELFUND beneficiaries

The management of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo, Taraba State, has denied allegations of extorting ₦5,250 from students following the disbursement of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

The claims, circulating widely on social media, suggested that the college was deducting the amount from every NELFUND beneficiary.

Provost Dorcas Dungule addressed the allegations on Friday, describing the reports as “unfounded and misleading.”

She added that the college had not been contacted for verification before the claims were published online.

Dungule revealed that some students admitted to making the posts and handed over their phones for investigation.

“The college is currently investigating the matter,” she said.

The provost explained that students are required to procure academic and clinical materials, which include ₦4,000 for a clinical logbook, ₦2,500 for the Record of Instruction, ₦4,000 for an entrepreneurial logbook, and ₦1,500 for administrative and bank charges, amounting to a total of ₦12,000.

“These materials are supplied by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and are a standard requirement for nursing students nationwide,” Dungule said.

She clarified that these charges apply to all students, whether they are NELFUND beneficiaries or not, and form part of the clearance process for NELFUND payments.

The provost also addressed a social media post attributed to Abdulmumin Iman, which sought to discredit the college’s administration regarding NELFUND disbursements.

“The allegation is misleading and does not reflect the true situation,” she said, stressing that the post was made without proper verification or engagement with the college authorities.

Dungule concluded by emphasising the college’s commitment to transparency and adherence to regulatory requirements, assuring the public that all fees are legitimate and part of standard training procedures.
