Ikorodu cult violence claims six lives in Oreta and Bayeku, sparking fear as residents demand justice and tighter security from Lagos authorities

The Ikorodu cult violence wave has claimed at least six lives this week, with five corpses discovered along the riverbank in Oreta and another man gruesomely killed in Bayeku, Lagos State.

The incidents, which occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday, have deepened fears over cult-related killings across the state.

Residents said the Bayeku victim’s wrist and leg were severed in the attack, while videos circulating online showed multiple bodies at the Oreta riverbank, one in a blue hoodie and another in a black-and-white shirt.

Although some community members linked the Bayeku killing to land-grabbing disputes, others believe the wider violence is tied to cult clashes that have surged in Ikorodu and beyond.

Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Hammed Aroyewun, confirmed the tragedies and condemned the killings as *“painful, unacceptable, and a direct affront to the peace of Baiyeku.”*

He said his administration, working with security agencies, had intensified patrols and vowed that perpetrators would be tracked down.

“Our people deserve to live in peace and without fear. This administration will continue to deploy every necessary resource, in close partnership with security agencies, to guarantee safety and restore lasting peace,” his statement read.

The attacks come just days after three suspected cultists were shot dead during a festival on Lagos Island, further underscoring concerns about Lagos’ spiralling cult wars.

As of press time, the Lagos State Police Command had not officially commented, as calls and messages to spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin went unanswered.
