FCT robbery suspects arrested over deadly Asokoro house attack as police recover stolen vehicle and valuables

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested two suspected notorious armed robbers in connection with the killing of a security guard during a house break-in in Asokoro, Abuja.

The suspects, Amaechi Edemba, 46, and Kelechi Nwokoro, 48, were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad after a complaint was lodged in January 2026.

Police said the duo were domestic staff of the victim whose residence was attacked. At the time of their arrest, officers reportedly recovered jewellery, laptops, wrappers and a silver Toyota Camry believed to have been stolen during the robbery.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to Josephine Adeh, armed robbers broke into the Asokoro residence, murdered the on-duty security guard, Ishaku Marcus, and made away with cash and other valuables before fleeing.

Between February 12 and 19, 2026, operatives tracked down and arrested the two principal suspects.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Kelechi Nwokoro had previously been employed as a security guard by the complainant but was disengaged from service in January 2026 over alleged negligence. Police said resentment over the dismissal allegedly motivated the plot.

Investigators disclosed that Kelechi Nwokoro allegedly conspired with Amaechi Edemba and recruited four additional accomplices from neighbouring Nasarawa State to execute the robbery.

Leveraging prior knowledge of the premises, Kelechi Nwokoro allegedly disabled the closed-circuit television system and cut off the electricity supply before leading the gang into the house.

When confronted by the on-duty guard, the attackers overpowered him, leading to his death, before escaping with valuables and the vehicle, police said.

Upon arrest, the stolen Toyota Camry and other exhibits were recovered. Authorities stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang who are still at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, commended the officers involved in the operation for what he described as a professional and swift response.

Miller G. Dantawaye also urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to profile domestic staff through the police before employment and to remain vigilant at all times.

Josephine Adeh reiterated the Command’s call for the public to promptly report suspicious activities, assuring residents that information provided would be treated with confidentiality as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the territory.
