Super Falcons striker Esther Okoronkwo has returned to training after recovering from a hamstring injury, providing a timely boost ahead of Nigeria’s preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The 29-year-old forward picked up the injury during AFC Toronto’s league match against Halifax early last month and has since been sidelined for several weeks.

The setback forced her to miss five league matches for her Canadian club as well as Nigeria’s recent international friendlies against Senegal.

Her return to training now raises hopes of a swift return to competitive action as she edges closer to full fitness.

Okoronkwo is expected to feature for AFC Toronto in their upcoming league fixture against Montreal Roses at York Lions Stadium on Saturday.

The forward played a key role in AFC Toronto’s successful campaign last season, where she contributed significantly to the club’s title triumph.
