Enyimba beat Kano Pillars 2–0 in Aba to end their winless streak as Abia Warriors rise to the NPFL summit after matchday 11

Enyimba vs Kano Pillars ended in a decisive 2–0 victory for the People’s Elephant in Aba on Sunday, easing mounting pressure on coach Stanley Eguma and lifting the two-time African champions to mid-table safety.

Winless in their previous five outings, Enyimba rediscovered their spark with a commanding first-half display against a struggling Pillars side.

John Bassey broke the deadlock in the 29th minute following a sharp exchange inside the box, before Edidiong Ezekiel doubled the advantage six minutes later after rounding goalkeeper Galadima in style.

Despite Kano Pillars’ attempts to regroup after the break, Enyimba remained in control and comfortably saw out the game to secure their first win since September.

The result takes them to 16 points, while Pillars remain rooted to the foot of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table amid growing uncertainty on and off the pitch.

Elsewhere, Abia Warriors climbed to the top of the standings with a hard-fought 2–1 away win against Niger Tornadoes in Minna.

Sunday Megwo put the visitors ahead in the 38th minute before an own goal from Sunday Akinmoladun doubled their lead just before half-time.

Abdulrasheed Dabai pulled one back early in the second half, but the Warriors held firm to secure victory.

The win, coupled with Nasarawa United’s 1–0 defeat to Rivers United, lifted Abia Warriors to first place with 21 points — two clear of the Solid Miners, who still have a game in hand against defending champions Remo Stars.

Eguma’s relieved Enyimba vs Kano Pillars winners will next host state rivals Abia Warriors in Umuahia, in what promises to be a high-stakes derby with top-spot implications.

Pillars, meanwhile, must quickly regroup to avoid another drop into the Nigeria National League.

In Lagos, Ikorodu City extended their fine home form with a 2–0 win over Kun Khalifat.

Chidera Oparaocha and Ibifubara Dagogo were on target as the Oga Boys climbed to third place with 18 points, edging Warri Wolves on goal difference.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars were held 1–1 by Katsina United after Chukwudi Ekeocha cancelled out Chigozie Ihejiofor’s early opener, leaving both teams on 16 points apiece.

Elsewhere, Bayelsa United edged Plateau United 2–1 in Yenagoa thanks to a brace from Emo James, while goalless draws between El-Kanemi Warriors and Enugu Rangers in Maiduguri, and Barau versus Wikki Tourists in Kano, rounded off Sunday’s fixtures.

Remo Stars’ crisis deepened on Saturday after a 3–1 defeat to Kwara United in Ilorin, with Junior Aimufua netting twice and Babatunde Bright adding a thunderous third.

In Benin, Warri Wolves drew 1–1 with Bendel Insurance, keeping their strong early-season momentum intact.

With Abia Warriors now top and Enyimba finally back to winning ways, the NPFL title race looks set for a fiercely competitive December run.
