Enugu Rangers beat Bayelsa United 4-1, while Victor Mbaoma stars as Remo Stars edge Enyimba 2-1 in NPFL matchday 16

Enugu Rangers emphatically ended Bayelsa United’s weekend with a 4-1 demolition at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday, while Remo Stars relied on Victor Mbaoma’s heroics to secure a 2-1 victory over Enyimba in NPFL matchday 16.

At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Rangers dominated from the start. Chidozie Iwundu opened the scoring in the 10th minute and doubled the advantage seven minutes later.

Kenechukwu Agu added a third in the 33rd minute, before Chimobi Igwilo made it 4-0.

Bayelsa United’s sole reply came via Issah Yusuf in the 22nd minute, leaving Rangers fourth on 25 points after 16 games.

In Abeokuta, Remo Stars’ captain Victor Mbaoma was decisive. He converted a low cross from Chigozie Chilekwu in the third minute to give the hosts an early lead.

Enyimba equalised in the 32nd minute through Edidiong, following Chidera’s run down the flank.

Just before halftime, Mbaoma headed home a Haruna Hadi free-kick to restore Remo’s advantage. He was later substituted for Adam Goita to a standing ovation.

Elsewhere, Kwara United beat Niger Tornadoes 2-0 at home with goals from Bright Babatunde (15th minute) and an own goal (37th minute).

Kano Pillars edged Kun Khalifat 2-1 with Rabiu Ali scoring twice, while Plateau United narrowly defeated Warri Wolves 1-0 courtesy of an own goal.

Both Plateau and Wolves had players sent off late: Vincent Temitope and Gift David. Abia Warriors and Rivers United shared a 1-1 draw, with Suraju Lawal scoring in stoppage time.

Wikki Tourist held league leaders Ikorodu City to 0-0, as did El-Kanemi Warriors against Barau.

Following the weekend’s results, Ikorodu City remain top with 28 points, Nasarawa United and Rivers United are second and third on 27 points each.

Defending champions Remo Stars moved to ninth with 22 points, Bayelsa United drop to 14th with 20 points, and Rangers maintain fourth with 25 points.

The league resumes Monday with Katsina United facing Bendel Insurance, and Nasarawa hosting Shooting Stars.

Matchday 17 includes Insurance vs Rangers, Barau vs Shooting, Bayelsa vs Remo Stars, and Enyimba vs Kwara United, scheduled between December 13–14.

Rivers United will complete outstanding games against Plateau United on Wednesday and travel to Kano on December 18 to face Barau in a rescheduled fixture.
