Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has approved scholarships for more than 760 beneficiaries under the state’s 2025/2026 Local Scholarship Scheme, marking a significant step towards expanding access to quality education and strengthening human capital development.

The Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board, Chukwuemeka Mbah, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday 30 June 2026.

The beneficiaries, drawn from all 17 local government areas and various fields of study, include over 500 undergraduate students, 100 postgraduate students and 160 public sector teachers.

Successful applicants who passed the Computer-Based Test have started receiving text messages and emails inviting them for verification and documentation on a local government-by-local government basis.

The Executive Secretary urged them to respond promptly to facilitate the process.

Chukwuemeka Mbah said the scheme reflects Governor Mbah’s commitment to investing in education and empowering young people. “This is not the time to say you’re unable to get quality education because of funding. The governor has made it easy for our people to access free, quality education,” he stated.

He added that more beneficiaries would be captured in subsequent phases of the programme, which remains open to residents of Enugu State.

The initiative forms a key part of the Mbah administration’s broader education agenda, which includes investments in infrastructure, digital learning, teacher development and expanded scholarship opportunities.
