Emure APC chairman: Residents and stakeholders urge party not to re-nominate incumbent over governance concerns and alleged asset mismanagement

Concerned indigenes and loyal members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Emure Ekiti have written an open letter to the Governor of Ekiti State and the party leadership, urging that Mr Tosin Adedayo not be re-nominated as chairman of Emure Local Government.

The letter, signed by community stakeholders and party members, cites documented governance concerns, underperformance, and growing public alienation under the current administration as the main reasons for the appeal.

Local government, the writers argue, is the tier closest to citizens and should demonstrate transparency, responsiveness, and impact.

However, the letter alleges that the current chairman has presided over weak community engagement, controversial handling of public assets, and poor accountability.

Of particular concern is the reported sale of the Emure Local Government House, allegedly undervalued and sold to a politically connected individual.

The letter notes that the sale prompted the establishment of a committee to recover assets, highlighting governance lapses.

The letter also highlights confrontational responses to citizens’ demands for accountability and engagement, suggesting that civil society groups have repeatedly raised concerns over illegal asset sales and governance conduct.

The signatories express unease over reports of a planned “consensus” candidacy for the forthcoming local government elections, warning that imposition of the incumbent undermines democracy and prioritises loyalty over performance.

“Performance must remain the ultimate test of leadership. Infrastructure remains underdeveloped, youth empowerment initiatives are limited, and trust in local governance has been severely eroded,” the letter states.

The writers call on the APC and the Ekiti State Government to allow open, competitive processes and encourage new ideas and credible alternatives, stressing the need for leadership that is transparent, accountable, and development-focused.

The letter concludes with the rallying principles: “Emure Ekiti first. Accountability before convenience. Democracy before imposition. Progress before politics.”
