EFCC electoral arrests see 20 detained over vote buying, selling, and obstruction in FCT local elections, with ₦17.2 million seized

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 20 individuals for electoral offences during the recent Federal Capital Territory (FCT) local government elections, the commission announced on Sunday.

The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended across the FCT for offences including vote buying, vote selling, and obstructing election officials.

Investigators reported that a total of ₦17.2 million was involved in the illicit activities.

One of the suspects was found with ₦13.5 million in a car parked near a polling unit in Kwali Local Government Area. Arrests were made in several FCT areas, including two in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali.

Oyewale stated that the suspects will face court proceedings once investigations are concluded.

The arrests underscore the EFCC’s commitment to tackling financial and electoral crimes and promoting the integrity of the electoral process in the FCT.
