Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) explains electricity drop in Southeast Nigeria, citing inadequate gas supply to thermal stations, urging patience from customers

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has attributed the recent drop in electricity supply across the South-East region to insufficient gas supply to thermal generating stations.

EEDC’s spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the development significantly reduced the energy allocated from the national grid.

“We assure our customers that we will continue to liaise with relevant stakeholders, hoping that the gas supply constraints and generation challenge will be resolved soon,” Ezeh said.

The distribution company also apologized for the inconvenience caused to consumers within its franchise areas, emphasizing that it appreciates the patience and understanding of residents.

This statement comes shortly after the Nigeria Independent System Operator also blamed a nationwide drop in power supply on gas shortages, highlighting ongoing challenges in the country’s energy sector.
