Edo State supplementary budget increases by ₦125bn to ₦799.8bn, with 70% now allocated to capital projects under Governor Okpebholo’s infrastructure focus

Edo State supplementary budget for the 2025 fiscal year has been increased by ₦125 billion, bringing the new total to ₦799.820 billion.

This marks an 18 per cent rise from the previously approved ₦675.220 billion.

The approval came after an emergency Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Monday Okpebholo, reflecting his administration’s sharpened focus on infrastructure development.

Speaking to reporters, the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, explained that the revised budget allocates 70 per cent to capital expenditure, compared to 67 per cent in the previous version. Recurrent expenditure now makes up the remaining 30 per cent.

“This demonstrates Governor Okpebholo’s clear commitment to infrastructure,” Okoebor said. “From the ₦125 billion increment, about ₦113 billion goes to capital projects, while ₦12 billion covers additional recurrent costs, such as minimum wage adjustments and new healthcare hires.”

He further noted that Edo State has already delivered 254km of roads, with more projects in progress.

The revised budget supports a vision of accelerated development and improved public services across the state.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu, confirmed that the revised estimate will soon be transmitted to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative approval.

The original 2025 budget, tagged “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo”, was presented in December 2024 with an estimate of ₦605 billion.

Lawmakers later increased it to ₦675 billion following deliberations aimed at supporting the governor’s five-point development agenda.

With the latest upward adjustment, Governor Okpebholo now has a significantly expanded fiscal framework to pursue large-scale capital projects while sustaining public sector wages and essential services.
