Edo APC ward congress concludes peacefully across 192 wards, with leaders elected by consensus and focus on grassroots mobilisation for 2027 elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State successfully conducted its ward congress on 18 February across all 192 wards, electing leaders through a consensus arrangement.

State Chairman Jarret Tenebe, speaking at the party secretariat in Benin City alongside a delegation from the national secretariat, described the exercise as peaceful and strictly in line with established guidelines.

Tenebe hailed the congress as a milestone in the party’s development, noting its significance for unity, cohesion, transparency, and inclusivity.

“The seamless conclusion of the Ward Congresses across the 192 wards of Edo State marks yet another watershed in the political evolution of our dear state,” he said.

He confirmed that directives from the National Working Committee for congresses at ward, local government, and state levels were faithfully implemented.

“The result is a process concluded seamlessly, without rancor, without disharmony, and without division among our members,” Tenebe added.

The chairman highlighted Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to delivering 3.5 million votes in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, describing it as a collective responsibility of party members.

Addressing newly elected ward leaders, Tenebe emphasised the importance of their grassroots roles.

“The ward remains the bedrock of our political structure. It is the closest arm of the party to the grassroots and the electorate who ultimately determine outcomes at both state and national levels,” he said.

He urged the executives to strengthen party structures, mobilise members, and ensure party policies resonate with communities.

The chairman also encouraged ward leaders to actively support the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as critical to preparations for the 2027 elections.

“Embark on a massive grassroots mobilisation drive to encourage eligible citizens to participate fully in the ongoing INEC registration exercise.

Beyond mobilisation, sensitise our people on the importance of safeguarding their Permanent Voter Cards.

The strength of democracy lies in the ballot, and the ballot begins with registration,” Tenebe stated.

He concluded by calling on ward leaders to maintain close collaboration with local government executives to preserve harmony within the party.
