Amorim, 40, was relieved of his duties on Monday, just 14 months after his appointment.

His departure came shortly after a post-match outburst following United’s 1–1 draw with Leeds, exposing tensions with the club hierarchy over tactical decisions and transfer support.

Fletcher, who spent 20 years at United as a player and later joined the coaching staff, will take charge against Burnley on Wednesday.

He previously managed the club’s Under-18 side and has been involved in United’s youth development since 2020.

The club expressed gratitude to Amorim for his contributions, noting he led United to the UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May, and said Fletcher’s appointment aims to maximise the team’s Premier League finish this season.
