Dangote honorary engineering fellowship to be conferred by NAE for his impact on industrial and infrastructure development across Africa

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group and Africa’s foremost industrialist, will on Friday, 25 April 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria, be inducted as an Honorary Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering in recognition of his extensive contributions to engineering-led industrial development across Nigeria and the wider African continent.

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the induction ceremony will be held as a high-profile academic and professional gathering organised by the President and Council of the academy.

It described the honour as a recognition of Dangote’s transformative role in large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects.

The academy, established in 1997, is Nigeria’s apex professional body for engineering.

It also functions as a strategic advisory institution on science, technology, and innovation policy, providing guidance to both government and private sector stakeholders.

It comprises distinguished experts drawn from multiple engineering disciplines, with members selected from both Nigeria and the international professional community.

The institution is widely regarded as a key driver of technical policy direction in the country.

According to the academy, Dangote’s selection reflects his outstanding impact on engineering-dependent investments, particularly in cement manufacturing, manufacturing expansion, and energy infrastructure development.

His projects have been credited with reshaping industrial capacity within Nigeria.

A major highlight of his portfolio includes the development of large-scale cement production facilities and the establishment of one of Africa’s most ambitious petroleum refining complexes, both of which rely heavily on advanced engineering systems and technical innovation.

The academy also noted that its role extends beyond professional recognition, as it regularly supports national development through policy advisory services and technical research aimed at improving competitiveness and solving complex infrastructure challenges.

Dangote’s induction places him among a select group of honorary fellows recognised for exceptional contributions to engineering and technological advancement, despite not being formally trained as a professional engineer.
