Dangote Cement launches Attingué plant in Ivory Coast, creating over 1,000 jobs and supporting rapid infrastructure development with a 3MT annual output

Dangote Cement launches Attingué plant just outside Abidjan, strengthening its presence in West Africa with one of its largest production facilities outside Nigeria.

Announced on Wednesday by Serge Gbotta, Managing Director of Dangote Cement Ivory Coast, the project covers 50 hectares in Attingué, roughly 30 kilometres from the Ivorian capital.

With an annual production capacity of 3 million tonnes, the plant is expected to play a major role in supporting the country’s infrastructure growth and local economy.

Described as a strategic investment, the Attingué plant is valued at 100 billion CFA francs and marks Ivory Coast as the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement operation.

“This plant aligns with Aliko Dangote’s vision of building a self-sufficient Africa, less reliant on imports and more focused on transforming its natural resources into world-class finished products,” the company said in a statement issued on Sunday.

The launch comes amid increasing demand for cement in Ivory Coast, fuelled by rapid urbanisation and an uptick in national construction projects.

The facility is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing opportunities for young people and supporting local SMEs involved in transportation, construction, retail and supply chains.

Speaking at the launch event held at Novotel Abidjan-Marcory, Gbotta reaffirmed the group’s commitment to local development.

“Our ambition is clear: to offer Ivorians internationally-standard cement, produced locally, at a competitive price. The Attingué plant is not just an industrial unit; it is a symbol of confidence in the future of Ivory Coast and a commitment to sustainable development alongside local communities.”

With a continental footprint of 55 million tonnes per annum, Dangote Cement continues to assert itself as a power player in Africa’s industrial landscape.
