Customs launches reputation guide as part of a strategic initiative to reform its image and operational ethics.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) unveiled its Service Reputation Management Guide on Tuesday at its headquarters in Abuja, with Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi leading the launch.

The guide aims to equip officers with a clear understanding of their ethical responsibilities and how to uphold professionalism.

“We want to rewrite the history of Customs and go beyond our traditional mandate,” Adeniyi said, describing the guide as a tool for transformative change.

He highlighted the NCS’s revenue growth — 70% in 2023 and 92% in 2024 — and its increasing global recognition in trade facilitation and anti-smuggling efforts.

Adeniyi noted the alignment with World Customs Organisation (WCO) standards, particularly on transparency, inclusivity, and integrity.

The guide also reflects support for President Bola Tinubu’s social agenda, with initiatives in education, health, water, and creative economy.

The launch was praised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) as a milestone in institutionalising reputation management.
