Spain coach Luis de la Fuente says he is happy for Marc Cucurella after his move from Chelsea to Real Madrid was confirmed

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has expressed delight over Marc Cucurella’s transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid, describing the move as positive news for both the player and the national team.

The Spanish left-back completed a switch to Real Madrid on June 15, 2026, after the LaLiga giants reached an agreement with Chelsea, sealing a long-term contract at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Cucurella is expected to remain at the club until June 30, 2032, marking a major career step after his spell in the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of Spain’s World Cup opener against Cape Verde, De la Fuente said he was pleased whenever his players secured positive developments at club level during the tournament period.

“We celebrate if it’s good news for Cucu,” he said.

“And if something else comes up during the tournament with another team-mate and it’s good news for him, then we celebrate that, too.”

The Spain coach emphasised that player happiness directly benefits team performance and unity within the national squad.

“What is good for one of my players is good for the team as a whole,” he added.

“If he’s happy and content then, I am happy and content. Anything I see that brings my players happiness makes me as happy as they are.”
