Chelle salary NFF talks see federation offer $100k monthly as Super Eagles coach pushes for improved deal and better conditions

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to offer Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle a revised monthly salary of $100,000 as contract negotiations continue with the Franco-Malian tactician.

A senior source within the federation disclosed that the proposed figure represents the maximum the NFF is willing to pay, despite Chelle’s request for a $130,000 monthly package, which he said would also cover the wages of his technical staff.

The coach currently earns $50,000 per month under his existing contract.

“We are open to reviewing Eric Chelle’s current contract and willing to meet some of the terms he has proposed,” the source said.

“The Federal Government and NFF want continuity. If he lowers his demand, we want him to stay, but we are not prepared to offer more than $100,000 per month.”

The Chelle salary NFF negotiations have become a focal point for the federation as it seeks stability in the national team setup ahead of upcoming international fixtures.

The source added that failure to reach an agreement could trigger a search for another foreign coach, with the option of appointing a local manager already ruled out.

“Even if Chelle declines the proposed terms, the NFF is not considering appointing a local coach and would instead look abroad for a replacement,” the source said.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi were unsuccessful, as calls and messages were not returned as of the time of filing this report.

Chelle has previously defended his salary request, explaining that the proposed increase reflects the financial burden of paying his technical crew and improving working conditions.

Speaking on the Histoires de Foot Podcast, the coach said he remains committed to his role and is focused on preparing the Super Eagles for upcoming assignments.

“When you talk about $130,000, it’s dollars, not euros. What people don’t know is that in Africa, with national teams I’ve worked with, I have to pay my technical staff myself,” Chelle said.

The coach also outlined additional demands, including improved accommodation, official transport, enhanced training facilities, and greater influence in squad preparation and scouting.

Despite links with clubs such as Olympique Marseille and interest from other African national teams, Chelle has denied plans to leave Nigeria, insisting he still has one year remaining on his contract.
