WAEC confirms that all students registered for CB-WASSCE 2026 will sit the exam without issues, adding it will boost transparency and reduce malpractice

CB-WASSCE 2026 will be conducted seamlessly for all candidates across Nigeria and abroad, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured, as the exam body intensifies its sensitisation campaign ahead of full deployment of computer-based testing.

Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, the Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, said that preparations were in top gear to ensure that no candidate is left out of the upcoming Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

“We are ready. Every candidate that registers for CB-WASSCE 2026 will write the exam, whether onshore or offshore,” Dangut stated confidently during the awareness event held across Yaba, Ojo, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Maryland and Surulere.

He noted that WAEC had already conducted five successful exams in CBT format, recording lower rates of malpractice and better student performance.

“CB-WASSCE is the future of examinations,” said Dangut. “We’ve proven it can be done. Our goal is to entrench transparency, reduce logistics issues, and eliminate the window for fraud.”

The sensitisation campaign, which engaged schools, students and parents, is part of WAEC’s effort to ease the transition to digital exams and allow candidates to practise well in advance.

In line with global trends, Dangut added, the digital shift would place Nigeria’s education sector on a more competitive footing.

Dangut also addressed concerns about subject removals from WAEC’s Continuous Assessment Score Submission (CASS) portal, clarifying that only government-deprecated trade subjects were removed.

“For example, auto merchandising. If it has been removed from the curriculum, keeping it on the portal serves no purpose,” he said, noting that some subjects had only undergone name changes, not content revisions.

He reiterated WAEC’s commitment to innovation, legality, and responsiveness to stakeholder needs.

“WAEC is not acting in isolation,” he said. “We are responsible, law-abiding, and aligning with government reforms.”
