Carrick Man Utd transfers remain a priority as the manager urges the board to strengthen the squad before the summer window closes

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has delivered a clear message to the club’s board, saying Manchester United need more players to compete successfully across all competitions this season.

Carrick, who took over as interim head coach after Manchester United parted ways with Ruben Amorim, helped steady the club during the latter stages of the 2025/26 campaign and guided United to Champions League qualification.

The former United midfielder was subsequently handed the permanent managerial role and is now preparing for his first full season in charge.

With the new campaign approaching, Carrick believes further recruitment is necessary if United are to challenge on multiple fronts.

“We want more, we need more, we keep looking for how we can do that, money’s money, I understand that,” Carrick told BBC Sport.

“We believe we must strive for success in every competition we participate in, while remaining realistic about our recent history over time.”

Carrick acknowledged that United must work with the players already available, but made it clear that the club cannot afford to stop looking for ways to improve.

“For now, we must maximise our current situation, but we need to push every limit possible to achieve victory again, essentially. That is the challenge,” he said.

United have already made several additions to their squad during the transfer window.

Andrey Santos arrived from Chelsea, while Youri Tielemans joined from Aston Villa as United look to strengthen their midfield following Casemiro’s departure as a free agent.

The club have also brought in Karl Darlow as a goalkeeper, with Altay Bayindir moving to Celta Vigo on loan.

Further additions could still be made before the transfer window closes.

United have reportedly identified Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall as a potential target, while Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

No significant progress has reportedly been made regarding a deal for Tchouameni.

Carrick’s comments come as United attempt to build on a more encouraging finish to last season while preparing to return to the Champions League.

The manager now faces the demanding task of balancing domestic competition with European football, making squad depth an important consideration.
