Bayern thrash Atalanta 4-1 as Harry Kane hits 50 UCL goals, sealing a dominant aggregate win and setting up a Real Madrid clash

Bayern Munich delivered a commanding performance to thrash Atalanta 4-1 on Wednesday, completing a resounding 10-2 aggregate victory to reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Captain Harry Kane scored in each half to lead the rout, reaching a milestone of 50 goals in the competition after just 66 appearances in a clinical display at the Allianz Arena.

Goals from Lennart Karl and Luis Díaz added gloss to the scoreline, while Lazar Samardžić netted a late consolation for the visitors.

The emphatic win sets up a high-stakes quarter-final clash with Real Madrid, rekindling a fierce European rivalry.

Bayern’s progression had appeared all but certain after a dominant first-leg victory in Bergamo, but the German champions still produced a powerful and disciplined performance despite several key absences.

Injuries to Jamal Musiala, Manuel Neuer and Alphonso Davies, alongside suspensions for Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise, forced adjustments to the starting line-up.

However, goalkeeper Jonas Urbig returned from injury to provide a timely boost and delivered a crucial save late in the first half to preserve Bayern’s lead.

Atalanta, coached by Raffaele Palladino, began brightly but fell behind when a VAR review penalised Giorgio Scalvini for handball, allowing Kane to convert from the spot after a retake.

Kane doubled the advantage early in the second half with a superb individual effort, shrugging off multiple defenders before unleashing a fierce strike into the top corner.

Bayern’s attacking intensity overwhelmed the Italian side, with Karl and Díaz combining effectively to extend the lead and underline the hosts’ dominance.

The match briefly eased in intensity before Samardžić headed in a late goal, offering little more than consolation for Atalanta, who were the final remaining Serie A representatives in the competition.

The result reinforces Bayern’s status as formidable contenders, while Kane’s milestone performance adds further weight to his impact since joining the German giants.
