Atlético Madrid are reportedly unhappy with Nigeria’s use of Ademola Lookman during international friendlies, citing fatigue and injury concerns

Atlético Madrid have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over how Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle managed Ademola Lookman during the recent international break.

According to Spanish outlet AS, the La Liga club raised concerns about the winger’s workload after he played full matches in Nigeria’s two friendly games.

Lookman featured for 180 minutes across fixtures against Jordan and Iran, sparking concern within Atlético over player fatigue.

The forward, who joined the Rojiblancos from Atalanta during the winter transfer window, played the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 win over Iran and another full match in a 2-2 draw against Jordan in Antalya, Turkey.

AS reports that Atlético Madrid believe the decision to play him for the entire duration of both non-competitive matches was excessive, especially given their ongoing domestic and European campaigns.

Lookman has been in strong form since arriving in Spain, scoring five goals and providing four assists across La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League.

Club officials are now said to be focused on carefully managing his minutes as the season reaches a decisive stage.

Atlético are also worried that the heavy international workload could increase fatigue levels and raise injury risks, potentially affecting their push for silverware across multiple competitions.
