Atiku Abubakar condemns deadly insurgent attack in Adamawa, urging government to act decisively against worsening insecurity

Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the deadly assault on Wagga Mongono community in Adamawa State, where suspected insurgents killed at least four people, injured many others, and razed homes, shops, and a church.

The attack, which struck Madagali Local Government Area on Tuesday, forced terrified residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety, highlighting once more the fragile state of Nigeria’s security.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the former vice president described the incident as a painful reminder of the worsening insecurity that continues to claim innocent lives despite repeated government assurances.

“Our people are certainly tired of government’s empty claims of improvements in security. Indeed, Nigerians would love to see this government exert pressure on insecurity much as they do on revenue generation,” Atiku said.

He argued that the government’s emphasis on hitting revenue targets was meaningless if citizens remained unprotected and vulnerable to attacks.

Calling the killings in Wagga Mongono deeply personal due to his Adamawa roots, Atiku extended his condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

He also commiserated with displaced residents who had been forced to abandon their homes.

“My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones, to those who were injured, and to the entire community forced to seek refuge in the bushes for safety.

The government must move beyond mere rhetoric and propaganda and take decisive, sustained action to protect lives and property,” he said.

Atiku urged the authorities to prioritise security and fulfil their constitutional duty of safeguarding citizens. He stressed that Nigerians deserve not just promises but tangible peace, stability, and the freedom to live without fear.

“May Almighty Allah grant eternal rest to the departed, healing to the injured, and comfort to all who mourn,” he added.

The Wagga Mongono attack is one of several recent violent incidents to rock the North-East, underscoring the persistent threat of insurgency despite official claims of progress against terror groups.
