Arteta Set-Piece FC nickname gains traction as Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 to move five points clear in the title race

Mikel Arteta said Arsenal are happy to embrace their Arteta Set-Piece FC nickname after two expertly executed corners sealed a crucial 2-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea on Sunday.

Arsenal moved five points clear at the top of the table at the Emirates Stadium as headers from William Saliba and Jurrien Timber secured the win.

The Gunners have now scored 16 goals from corners this season, equalling the Premier League record set by Oldham Athletic and West Bromwich Albion.

Supporters celebrated by chanting “set-piece again” as their side tightened its grip on the title race.

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton criticised Arsenal’s reliance on dead-ball situations, questioning whether they would be remembered as an unconvincing champion if they lift the trophy.

Arteta dismissed those concerns and defended the tactical emphasis.

“We knew the importance of the individual duels at set plays because Chelsea are a top side attacking and defending them,” Arteta said. “It’s very important. To have these options is great.”

Arsenal remain in contention on multiple fronts and have regained momentum after successive victories over Tottenham and Chelsea. Arteta expressed satisfaction with his side’s attitude and intensity during a demanding week.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior acknowledged frustration after conceding twice from corners despite implementing a new defensive scheme.

Chelsea have now conceded nine goals from set-pieces in Rosenior’s first 13 matches, five of them against Arsenal.

Rosenior also highlighted concerns about grappling inside the penalty area before corners are delivered, suggesting football authorities may need to review regulations.
