Arsenal agree £75m deal for Bruno Guimarães, with the Newcastle captain set to undergo a medical ahead of completing his move

Arsenal have agreed a £75 million deal with Newcastle United to sign captain Bruno Guimarães, with the Brazilian midfielder now expected to undergo a medical before completing the transfer.

According to Sky Sports, the agreement was reached on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after Newcastle gave the 28-year-old permission to travel and finalise the move to the Premier League champions.

The report said Guimarães had informed Newcastle officials earlier in the summer that he wanted to join Arsenal if an acceptable offer was received, paving the way for negotiations between the two clubs.

If completed, the transfer will further boost Newcastle’s remarkable summer sales, with the club set to generate more than £240 million from player departures.

Earlier in the transfer window, Anthony Gordon completed a £69.3 million move to Barcelona, while Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth £100 million.

Guimarães has been one of Newcastle’s standout performers since joining the club, establishing himself as a key figure in midfield and eventually taking on the captain’s armband.

His expected arrival would provide Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta with another high-profile addition as the club prepares to defend its Premier League title and compete in the UEFA Champions League.

The Brazilian’s energy, passing range and leadership qualities are expected to strengthen Arsenal’s midfield options ahead of the new campaign.
