Adamawa APC primary process faces scrutiny as aspirant Abdulrahman Haske alleges irregularities in governorship exercise

An aspirant in the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa, Abdulrahman Haske, has raised concerns over the conduct of the exercise, alleging irregularities in the process that produced Ahmed Galadima as the winner.

The governorship primary, held on Friday, was concluded with the declaration of Ahmed Galadima, a former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, as the party’s candidate.

The chairman of the primary election committee, Innocent Bariko, announced the result in Yola.

However, in a statement issued on Saturday through his campaign publicity secretary, Abdulgaffar Ahmed, Abdulrahman Haske questioned the transparency and credibility of the Adamawa APC primary process.

According to the statement, results from some local government areas were allegedly still being collated when the winner was declared at the Government House.

“The absence of collation processes in some Local Government Areas, irregularities in voting in certain polling units, and limited access to collation procedures before the final declaration of results raises questions on the primaries,” the statement read.

Abdulrahman Haske said his team was still reviewing available data and would decide on its next line of action after consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.

“It was surprising that while we were waiting for the collation of the votes to happen, what happened to our greatest surprise was declaration of the winner,” he stated.

While acknowledging that a candidate had emerged, the aspirant stressed that transparency, inclusiveness and fairness remained essential to preserving confidence within the party.

“The integrity of the process is as important as the outcome,” he added.

Abdulrahman Haske also thanked supporters across Adamawa State for their commitment during the exercise and urged them to remain peaceful and law-abiding.

The campaign organisation disclosed that it was exploring all legitimate channels available within the framework of the party’s constitution.

“Our decisions will be guided by due process, party unity, and the best interests of Adamawa State,” the statement said.

Reacting to the allegations, the Adamawa APC spokesman, Victor Dogo, dismissed the claims as unfounded and politically motivated.

Victor Dogo advised aggrieved aspirants to seek redress through the party’s appeal committee rather than making inflammatory public statements.

“The governorship primary election was free, fair and transparent,” he said, insisting that the votes scored by all aspirants were openly announced by the committee chairman.

The controversy surrounding the Adamawa APC primary process comes amid heightened political competition ahead of the 2027 elections, with internal party democracy expected to remain a major issue within political parties across Nigeria.
