Abuja power outage hits FCT and Nasarawa communities as AEDC links disruption to fault at Karu Transmission Substation

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has announced a widespread power outage affecting communities in the Federal Capital Territory and parts of Nasarawa State, following a technical fault at a major transmission facility.

The company said the disruption was caused by a fault on the 132kV incomer breaker at the Karu Transmission Substation, a critical infrastructure supplying electricity to several areas.

Communities impacted by the outage include Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, Jikwoyi, Orozo, Karshi, Ado, New Karu and surrounding locations within the FCT.

In Nasarawa State, affected areas include Keffi, Laminga, Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Nasarawa Toto.

AEDC stated that engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria are currently working to resolve the fault and restore electricity supply.

In its statement, the company apologised for the inconvenience caused and appealed to customers for patience, assuring that efforts are ongoing to fix the issue promptly.

It added that power supply is expected to be restored as soon as repair works are completed.

The Abuja power outage has heightened concerns among residents, many of whom rely on stable electricity for daily activities and business operations.

The latest disruption also comes amid broader challenges in Nigeria’s power sector, where distribution companies have cited reduced generation and gas supply constraints as factors affecting supply nationwide.
