Kolapo Alimi confirmed the development during a radio appearance on Rave FM, noting that Governor Ademola Adeleke submitted his resignation letter to PDP executives in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, on 4 November.

He attributed the governor’s exit to the prolonged leadership crisis at the national level of the party.

Alimi urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the administration.

He described the governor’s move as long overdue, adding that the internal divisions within the PDP had become too risky with the Osun governorship election approaching and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination window closing on 15 December.

Adeleke’s resignation triggered political reactions across the state. Alimi dismissed suggestions that the All Progressives Congress welcomed the development, arguing that the opposition only pretended to be pleased.

He said the APC had hoped Adeleke would remain in the PDP so they could exploit the national crisis to challenge his candidacy.

The commissioner explained that consultations on the governor’s next political platform were ongoing and that the state would receive confirmation within days.

He stressed that the defection might not have occurred if the PDP leadership had remained united.
